This six-lesson course takes participants on a trip to many of Britain’s greatest and most significant medieval castles. Students will trace the development of castles and their role in medieval society, their impact on the landscape, and also the role they have in the heritage of modern Britain. Participants will then explore castle developments in Continental Europe and the Holy Land.

Bio -

Presently living on the southern Oregon Coast after receiving her Master's Degree with Distinction from the University of Wales Aberystwyth, Lise Hull has spent over 18 years intensively exploring and enjoying Britain, its heritage, people and culture. She considers Wales to be her spiritual homeland, and returns there as often as possible. Lise's own business, Castles Unlimited, specialises in the study and promotion of British castles, its medieval and ancient heritage.
The URL is http://www.castles-of-britain.com. She is a member of the Royal Archaelogical Institute, the Society for Medieval Archaelogy, the Castle Studies Group, and the Pembrokeshire Historical Society.
For over eight years, Lise has been
a columnist for Ninnau, the North
American Welsh newspaper, writing their
"Wales, Off the Beaten Track" articles.
She also wrote the castle lore and digging up the past columns for Renaissance Magazine and several columns for Mysteries Magazine.
Her book, Countries of the World: Scotland, was published by Times Media in 2001 and she has just completed a book on the Castles of Glamorgan, pending publication in Wales. She is currently working on several other castle-related books and on doing one's genealogy in the new year.
Her work has appeared in Military History Quarterly, History Today, Family Tree magazine, Family History magazine, Everton's Genealogical Helper, Pembrokeshire Life, Activity Wales,Army Times, Power Trips, Scottish Journal, FACES, US Scots, Right Road and a variety of websites.
She plans to begin offering tours to Britain's castles in 2004 or 2005.
