This 7-lesson course is about growth and development of young children and about developmentally appropriate practices. The student will learn about predictable patterns of growth and development that children share, each in their own individual way. Developmentally appropriate practice means that the adult responds to each unique child in a way that best enhances that child’s growth and development. An adult who knows what to expect from most children, and what to expect from a particular child, can interact with that child in a way that moves the child toward reaching his or her potentials.
Special Note:
This course addresses all of the Child Development Associate (CDA) Competency Standards (see www.cdacouncil.org), necessary for qualifying for a CDA certificate.
Each of the seven lessons requires approximately one hour of time plus one hour for an assigned activity, resulting in 14 hours of instruction, or 1.4 CEUs
The instructor has applied for a Child Care Trainer Certificate with the Louisiana Pathways Child Care Career Development System. Therefore, this course may apply toward Training Requirements for the Louisiana Pathways Child Care Career Ladder. For more information, contact 1-800-245-8925.
